Penang is famed for
its street art, pioneered by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic. This delightful practice has been adopted by
Ipoh – teacher Eric Lai and his team of students converted the back alley
between Jalan Masjid (Hume Street) and Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah (Hugh Low
Street) into an art alley, with paintings that depict cultural elements,
traditional children games and traditional occupations.
We made a trip to
the Ipoh Street Arts back alley when we went back during CNY. The paintings pleasantly added splashes of
vibrant colours to the otherwise dead alley.
