TJC hat party

A couple of weeks before Yan Yan’s kindy mid-year party, I received the message book saying that the theme this round will be “Hat Party”, and that the children should come with a homemade hat which the parents and child can make into a home art project – not exactly the kind of news this creativity-challenged mum would welcome.

But a mum gotta do what a mum gotta do – so this mum asked Mr. Google for ideas and found one relatively simple one that I could attempt.

The girls had fun making the hat, and were quite pleased with the outcome.

Here are some shots of Yan Yan with her teacher and friends at the party.

School sports day 2015

Yiu Yiu participated in her school sports day in May.  She’s in the red house this year and was part of the red house students who participated in the march past.  Interestingly this year, each house was asked to have some costumes for the march past and Yiu Yiu was given a set of butterfly head band, wand and wings while some of the boys were dressed in Superman boxes…haha.

The days started with the usual marching in of students, followed by speeches by the headmaster and chairman of the PTA.

This was followed some performances: Chiense drum, school orchestra, taekwando, wushu and gymrama.

Yiu Yiu was the reserve for the Standard 4 4x100m race but she didn’t get to run.  However, one of the participants of the lower primary classes’ telematches didn’t turn up so the sports teacher put her in for the match J

Her 4x100m team finished first, and she got a medal too.

Super Lutein

The Japanese Association of Preventive Medicine for Adult Diseases (JAPA) is non-profit association of over 6,600 independent doctors and is the biggest and most respected of its kind in Japan.  The association reviews and endorses a variety of products and technologies and is known for its with stringent guidelines for certification.  More than 20,000 products are sent to them annually for approval but only 20 are recommended as they only issue such endorsements for only one product (or product line) to the very best in any given category or industry.  The criteria for approvals include:

  1. All ingredients must be pure and natural without fillers or additives
  2. There must be zero side effects towards the human body
  3. Clinical test reports to confirm that the product actually helps the prevention of chronic diseases and cancer
  4. Company not in debt, strong financial standing, without disputes with anyone and guarantees the continued quality of the products and the security of the production process
  5. Approval for the quality supply of raw materials
Super Lutein is a JAPA-certified product, with numerous other certifications around the world. In Malaysia, Super Lutein has Halal certification and is registered with KKM (Ministry of Health) and approved as an over the counter product. Its formulation also has patents in several major countries.

Super Lutein is essentially the extract of vegetable and fruit encapsulated in a sealed soft gel capsule.  It is a well-balanced mixture of lutein, zeaxanthin, crocetin, α-carotene, β-carotene, lycopene, anthocyanin, DHA and Vitamin E.  The first seven ingredients are all phytochemicals: antioxidants that actively work to neutralize free radicals created through oxidation triggered by extrinsic and intrinsic factors on the body such as UV rays, blue light, air pollution and physiological stress.  DHA is an omega-3-fatty acid derived from fish oil, and Vitamin E is an antioxidant found naturally in various foods.

It was initially conceived as a designer supplement for eyes.  Lutein by itself is found in the retina; while both lutein and zeaxanthin are the predominant antioxidant pigments in the macula.  Together they block UV rays and blue light from reaching underlying structures in the retina, thereby reducing the risk of light-induced oxidative damage that can lead to macular degeneration.

Lutein and zeaxanthin also have antioxidant properties, and together with other carotenoids in Super Lutein, it is also excellent for overall health to boost immunity.  If the tip of the soft gel cap is snipped off with a scissors, the high potency liquid (fruits & vegetables extract) within appears black on first sight but if spread on a white tissue or napkin, will exhibit the colours of the rainbow, essentially the colourful fruits and vegetables that we all need in our daily diet.  But how many of us are diligent enough to eat all colours of the rainbow and how much can we really eat?  Three capsules of Super Lutein daily is equivalent to four servings of fruits and five servings of vegetables in six coloured variety.

Ingested, these nutrients work alone and synergistically in combinations to help to maintain eye and skin health, prevent damage to vital organs and protect the body from illness.

Super Lutein is especially beneficial for those with eye conditions.  Many studies have shown that lutein and zeaxanthin reduce the risk of chronic eye diseases, including age related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts.  High levels of blood carotenoids are also associated with reduced risk of several types of cancer (e.g. breats, endometrial, urothelial, etc), osteoarthritis and other health conditions.

Garden wedding at Subak Restaurant

I’ve never heard of this place until my colleague asked if Yan Yan could be one of her flower girls for her wedding.  Of course I said yes, just for the fun of it, and to be part of the joyous occasion.

This colleague of mine is just super awesome – she DIYed everything, from the wedding invitation cards, floral arrangements, down to every little details of the party.

The bridal party dresses were the twist wrap dress, which I have no idea how to wear on Yan Yan, so the bridesmaid helped her with it.

It was a beautiful wedding, and the first of its kind that I’ve attended.
