A project that hubby and I have been talking about for ages now is setting up the second bedroom as Yiu Yiu's room. Over the last few months, we've been psychoing her about sleeping in her own room. We promised to decorate it with a Princess theme, so that got her excited. She's been fondly calling the second bedroom as "My room" and at the same time, trying to deal with the uncertainties of sleeping in her own room. Questions and comments like "Who will make milk milk for me at night?" (yes, this poor suffering mummy still has to wake up to make her milk during the night) or "I am afraid to sleep in the dark" crops up once in a while.
Anyhow, we got her involved in choosing the wallpaper, bedsheets and wall lamp for her room, as well as choosing the furniture at Ikea. We bought a bed with an underbed, with the plan to let the two sisters sleep together eventually. Two weeks ago, the wallpaper was put up and the Ikea folks came to install the furniture.

Yiu Yiu posing in her "close to complete" bedroom, with papa testing out the new Canon 450D
The missing part of the jigsaw however was the mattresses, which were delivered just several days ago. And after putting in the mattress and beddings, here's how her room looks like…cosy or not?
I am really not sure how she will take to sleeping on her own, especially with the new baby coming soon. My worry is whether she'll think we are displacing her to make way for the baby in our bed. We'll see how it goes, but will surely not force the issue if she's not ready. Hubby is all prepared that he may end up sleeping on the floor, with the two girls with me on our king-size bed :-)

You can start to get her to sleep in her room now since it's ready. At least she will hv some time to get used to it b4 the baby arrives. This might help so that she doesn't feel she is being displaced by the new baby
wow the bedroom is so lovely leh...compared to faythe's one so packed of things LOL
Wow...Yiu-Yiu's bedroom is sooo beautiful!
Look lovely and I like the wall paper.
Wah.. the room looks so comfy... I want to sleep on the princess bed too! LOL.
How I wish I could settle down in my own house and let the 2 girls sleeping in their own room... dreaming... dreaming... still a long way for me.
YY looks happy with it... just need some time to get along with it... :) you take care too... :)
lovely room !!!!! u surely gib me some inspiration on working on own rooms for my two gals.. it's time they sleep @ their own room too !!they have been tagging along with us too long di.. :P.. but my worries is.. later on they will treat that room as play room and still sleep with us.. or i am the one that have to sleep in their room in the end..:)
make sure u insist to let her sleep in her own room ya.. and tell her that the room is "especially for princiess yiu yiu ONLY".. let her feel superior to be in that room instead of liek letting her alone.. :)
WK/Cynthia - slowly easing her into her room.
Jazz - we used to use that room to store stuff as well, but we cleared them out to give YY a room of her own.
Chinnee/Michelle - thanks, that's our way of encouraging her to sleep in her own room.
Beckysmum - can, can, the underbed is unoccupied for the time being :-) How long more are you gonna be in Netherlands?
Ley Mei - haha, hopefully we don't end up with the princess bedroom as her play room.
yea.. the room looks cosy and very sweet too
very nice! i have rye li on my lap now showing her yiu yiu's room and she sure got alot to ask! lol. her room has always been there for her but she's sleeping on my bed, hubby's side while hubby sleeps on the floor on a mattress. lol!
i have been trying to brainwash her into sleeping in her room and also contemplating a princess-theme room. only hope that when we do invest in it, this girl would sleep there.
good luck with yiu yiu!
wow--what a beautiful room!
very nice! *sigh* i wish it were that easy for me. my kids still sneak into the master's bedroom every chance they get!
Agnes/Asianmommy - thanks.
Syn - that's what YY would do too, keep asking who's this and that whenever she's by my side when I'm blog surfing :-)
Since her room is ready, she's been sleeping there by herself for all of ONE night. Still needs to work on psyching her.
Mimi - if there's any consolation, YY IS still sharing our bed :-)
Woah! How much is the damage for the wallpaper?
Wow... good planning and lovely princess room!
You really get me thinking about preparing my kids to sleep in their own room... think I'll start off with them sharing the same room first. The question is how to have both dinosaur and princess themes in the same small room... hmmm...
wowww!!! this is seriously nice mann... how much you spend lo? Isn't the bed a bit high? And with no side guard rail, you're not worried about her rolling off the bed?
Hijackqueen - it's a gift from our contractor to YY.
BoeyJoey - I think it'll be easier to put them together in the same room for a start, at least they have company.
Buffafly - the wallpaper is a gift from our contractor to YY. The bed and wardrobe is from Ikea, and our contractor also got us a very good deal on the mattresses so all in, didn't do that much damage. The bed is quite high but there's an underbed (meant for her mei-mei next time) so even if she rolls off the bed, she'll just land on the underbed :-)
What a beautiful room! It's like every little girl's dream room...
I'm having a headache with our room because my Chinese uncles won't allow me to do any renovations.
Our queen-sized bed is smack in the middle and there's simply no room to squeeze in a cot on either side!
Maybe I should just go ahead despite all this pantang-larang...
Kittycat - our way of circumventing the pantang larang was to have Ikea fix and move in the furniture when I wasn't home...haha.
