I’m a happy helper
After dinner one night, Yiu Yiu insisted on helping me wash the dishes, so I let her be. She did quite a good job with them.

Girl, you tickle our bones
We went out for dinner with the whole clan (mum, sisters and brother, sis’s family) one evening. While waiting for our food, mum said she was buying dinner.
Me: Huh? You again? (coz mum always compete with us to pay for dinner).
Mum (in Cantonese): Yeah, never mind la. I finally received the money for the CNY ad.
Younger sister: You don't know meh? Mummy has a lot of money one ma!
Yiu Yiu: 婆婆有很多钱 because 她那我 mummy的钱 (Popo has a lot of money because she takes my mummy’s money*)
And we all couldn't help but burst out laughing.
*I give mum pocket money every month and she witnessed me giving mum money just the day before the dinner. Sure hope she’ll learn by example and take care of us when we get old, just like how we take care of mum now.

Yan Yan – 23rd – 24th month update
This is two weeks overdue but still worth penning them down for future recollection. At 2-year old now, Yan Yan is surprisingly better behaved compared to few months ago, so thankfully there has not been a repeat of the caning episode as yet – I hope I’m not speaking too soon :-) I think it boils down to her being able to understand instructions better. She’s able to have a two- or three-sentence conversation, and we can also understand most of what she says. She uses a combination of English, Mandarin and Cantonese in her speech.
Even at this age, she relies on her jie-jie for emotional support – sometimes when I scold her, she would cry and run to her jie-jie for comfort. She also imitates all that her jie-jie does. Whenever she refuses to do something when I ask, I’ll get her jie-jie to do the same thing, and naturally, she would come running wanting to do the same…haha. Once, she followed her jie-jie and climbed up the grille, and ended up screaming her lungs out coz she didn’t know how to climb back down. Haha…

She loves to scribble along when her jie-jie draws, and we try to teach her numbers by count 1,2,3… when going up the stairs. She also loves brushing her teeth, and may sometimes even insist on brushing on her own and pushes me away when I try to help. This girl is a bag person, unlike her jie-jie who was obsessed with shoes when she was at her age. Her favourite shows at the moment are Barney, Rio, and the Singaporean series on DVD, Baby Bonus – she loves the baby boy named Olympic in the show.
The other day I measured her height, and she stands at 82.5cm. Looks like she’ll grow much taller than her mummy and jie-jie, since she’ll most likely double this when she grows up.

Yiu Yiu’s kindy sports day
Last Saturday was Yiu Yiu’s kindy sports day. We were told to be at the kindy by 7.30am, and we did, only to find out that registration starts from 7.30 – 8.00am. So we were techinically 30 minutes early! The good thing about being early though, was that I got to park right out the main gate, and could select the best seat to view the proceedings.
As we waited for the event to start, the sun was playing peekaboo and at some points, it got quite dark and we were worried that it would pour any time. But luckily, the weather held so we had nice weather throughout the event.
The event started promptly with the children marching in, starting with the 6-year old children, and Yiu Yiu’s class happened to be the first class to march in.

Double celebration
Two days after celebrating Yan Yan’s birthday, we celebrated hubby’s birthday and our 7th wedding anniversary. We had planned only for a simple dinner with just the four of us, as hubby was away, and would only reach home late evening on that day.
I’ve read many reviews on this Midwestern porky restaurant, so we gave it a try. The restaurant is typically packed and they do not accept reservations for Friday, Saturday and Sunday dinner but since we were there close to 9pm, we didn’t have any problem getting a table. The small family run restaurant is decorated with lots of Midwestern and porky photos, pictures and paraphernalia, and has a warm and cosy ambience.
Hubby ordered grilled soft ribs, I had pork chops with Country gravy and we ordered bacon tomato spaghetti for the girls. The dishes tasted quite good, though the pork chop didn’t look appetizing at all when it arrived, with the brown gravy covering most of the plate.
Halfway through my pork chops, I noticed a long strand of hair in the gravy :-( We promptly informed the owner who was apologetic and offered to replace another dish for us. But since there are still leftover from the girls’ spaghetti, we declined. The owner then came with their signature apple crumble dessert, topped with two scoops of vanilla ice-cream, on the house. I’m not a fan of cooked fruits, but their version of apple crumble was so delicious that I finished almost half of it by myself, since hubby is not a dessert person. The apple slices were cooked just right and not too sweet, and the corn flakes provided some extra crunch.
Our biggest surprise came when we called for our bill – the owner didn’t charge us for the pork chop, on top of the complimentary dessert! That’s excellent customer service if you ask me. This will definitely not be our last visit there, as I’d like to try their other signature dishes.

Turning TWO
This little missy turned two yesterday…
…and she promptly celebrated it by ruining her birthday cake.
Perhaps she was protesting the fact that I bought a yummylicious plain looking cake, instead of a fancily decorated one :-) Anyway, this is how the cake is supposed to look like:
Though the cake was bashed, I still thought that we’d gather home after dinner, sing her a birthday song and let her cut the cake. Alas, she fell asleep in the car on the way home!

I had invited my extended family members for dinner for the birthday celebration and spent the whole morning trawling the Net for a nice restaurant. I chose this, but was disappointingly informed that they were not open for dinner, just an hour before dinner – my fault really, for not calling them up earlier.
Hubby suggested we go crabbing instead, since mum mentioned recently it's been a long time since she had crabs, and so we ended up at Pangkor Village Seafood Restaurant @ Taman Megah.

Hong Kong
I was in Hong Kong few weeks ago for work, and missed her just by a day or two. Otherwise, I would have kepohed and visited her new pad there.
Anyway, this was a really rushed and packed trip, and I hardly stepped out from the hotel, save for social obligations with my customers, despite staying right in the middle of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Had dinner on the first night at Café Deco at The Peak. The weather was fantastic that night, so I managed to capture some decent night shots.
We caught the Symphony of Lights show at the Avenue of Stars on the second night, but dinner (and the next night’s dinner) was disappointingly very forgettable!
On the last day, since we had some time to kill before our late afternoon flight, we went to Aberdeen and rode on the sampan poking our noses around the home of hundreds of people living on fishing junks around the harbor. It’s unbelievable to find such traditional lifestyle still exists amidst the modern high-rise community.
Next stop was the Stanley Market for some shopping.
Back at Kowloon, we even managed to visit a local market (one of the guest in the entourage wanted to buy some Hong Kong kailan home!) before heading for our dimsun lunch, and finally the airport for our flight home.

Random updates
June had been a really hectic month at work and I had forgotten about these photos taken at several events throughout the month. So here’s a quick round-up of happenings in June:
I was in Penang for work during the first weekend of June, and Yiu Yiu participated in a colouring competition organized by her art class. This time, her papa bought her a new set of 24-colour pencil, to ensure she’s not let down again by the poor quality colour pencils that she uses to doodle at home. Though she didn’t win anything, she didn’t take it too badly compared to last year. Perhaps it’s because she won a prize for the lucky draw.

We celebrated mum’s birthday with a vegetarian dinner at Kechara Oasis @ Jaya One. The restaurant has a nice ambience and food was quite decent.

I was away again the last week of June and Yiu Yiu's music class organized a Talent Time showcase. This is the second time in a row I missed out! It’s actually just a very simple event held at the recital hall of the music class building, but still, I can’t believe I missed BOTH the art competition AND the Talent Time TWO YEARS in a row!
